CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A series of road accidents marred the holidays here on Wednesday, claiming the life of a 52-year-old man in Barangay Agusan.
The victim, identified as Joseph Saldua, was struck by a speeding motorcycle early in the morning, according to a report from the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office – Traffic Enforcement Unit (COCPO-TEU).
Patrolman Jay-ar Caiña, a COCPO-TEU investigator, said he received an emergency call at about 4 a.m. and immediately responded to the scene.
“When we arrived at the site, the initial responders from the (Philippine) Red Cross told us that the victim had died,” Caiña said in a radio interview.
The motorcycle driver voluntarily surrendered after the incident, police said.
Meanwhile, several other vehicular accidents were reported across the city during the holiday season.
Heavy traffic has also been observed along major roads.
On Dec. 23, a van accident in Tupi, South Cotabato killed seven people after the vehicle’s brakes failed, causing it to crash into a tree.
Six of the fatalities were residents of Barangay Bugo, this city. (PNA)
