MANILA, Aug 18 (Mabuhay) —  – House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Wednesday lauded the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under the leadership of Secretary Erwin Tulfo for streamlining the grant of financial assistance to indigents, shortening the process to avail from three to five days to just one.

Romualdez made this remark as Tulfo along with DSWD officials led by Undersecretaries Niña Taduran and Jerico Javier paid a courtesy call at the House of Representatives.

“I commend Sec. Tulfo for this remarkable feat of responsible governance. His efforts only prove that no amount of barriers in the bureaucracy can stop the will of a strong leadership seeking efficiency in government processes,” Romualdez said.

Romualdez said this development would be crucial for services such as medical aid, where the element of time is of utmost importance.

“Sec. Tulfo recognizes this and has implemented measures to ensure that indigents receive the aid at a time they need it most,” he added.

Tulfo said the financial assistance covers medical, burial/funeral, transportation, educational, food, cash and other support.

Romualdez and Tulfo discussed the recent streamlining of processes in the DSWD to effect a reduction in the period of processing medical aid for indigents, among others.

“I congratulate Sec. Tulfo for assembling a competent team of DSWD officials who made this great milestone possible. Truly, if there’s a will, there’s a way,” Romualdez said.

Joining them in the meeting were Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, Iloilo Rep. Raul Tupas, Quezon Rep. David Suarez, and Alona Party-list Rep. Anna Marie Villaraza-Suarez. (MNS)
