MANILA, Mar 10 (Mabuhay) – The Sandiganbayan Third Division has tasked the Makati Medical Center (MMC) to submit the latest medical bulletin of Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile by Friday.

In a resolution issued March 6 but made public only on Tuesday, the anti-graft court gave the MMC five days to inform the court of Enrile’s present condition.

“The Medical Director of MMC, Makati City is directed to submit within a non-extendible period of five days from receipt hereof the latest medical bulletin on the condition of accused Enrile,” the one page resolution said.

Atty. Dennis Pulma, clerk of court of the Third Division, explained that the order stemmed from the notice given by the PNP General Hospital regarding Enrile’s transfer.

Enrile, 91, has been on hospital arrest at the PNP General Hospital since July last year over the graft and plunder charges he is facing before the Sandiganbayan. He is among the three senators charged for their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.

Enrile was rushed to the MMC dawn of February 26 due to worsening pneumonia.

While the Sandiganbayan has jurisdiction over Enrile, the court allows such emergency transfers if the PNP General Hospital does not have the necessary facilities to treat the detained senator. (MNS)
