MANILA, Nov 22 (Mabuhay) — Davao City Mayor and vice presidential aspirant Sara Duterte on Sunday said she agreed to be the running mate of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. in Eleksyon 2022 because of his long experience as a public official.

Mayor Sara, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, is the vice presidential bet of Lakas-CMD. Marcos, Jr., son of the late dictator President Ferdinand Marcos, is the standard bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

“Bakit si Bongbong Marcos ang pinili kong partner? Unang-una, he’s a former governor. Walang puwedeng kumuwestyon sa kanyang experience as governor. Parang ako, mayor. Local chief executive. Pangalawa, may experience siya sa House of Representatives. Naging congressman siya,” she said during their caravan in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

“Pangatlo, naging senador siya. Pinili ninyo, binoto ninyo. Naniniwala ako, and I confidently believe na ang kanyang experience: gobernador, congressman, senador — ito ang tutulong sa kanya para magampanan niya ang kanyang trabaho bilang pangulo ng Pilipinas,” she added.

Marcos, Jr. was a former Ilocos Norte governor, Ilocos Norte representative and a senator.

“Sa huli, iiwan ko sa inyo ang mensahe — sa mga tumatawag pa rin sa akin na president. Ang tinatakbuhan ko ay vice president. Bakit? Because oftentimes in life, we find ourselves to be a leader. Pero sometimes, in our lives, we need to stand behind another leader,” Mayor Sara added.

President Duterte, however, is not sold on Marcos, Jr. and called him a weak leader during his address to PDP-Laban members at a venue in Calapan, Mindoro.

Duterte made the remark after he was asked if his Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan and the PDP-Laban faction to which he belonged would ally with the Lakas-CMD party.

“No,” Duterte said. “Because andiyan si Marcos, e. Hindi ako bilib . He is a weak leader. Totoo ‘yan, ‘di ako naninira. Kasi spoiled child, only son,” he said.

“He is a weak leader, totoo ‘yan. I do not foist lies, masisira ka. Bantay kayo, [baka] magkamali ang Pilipinas,” Duterte added.

Marcos, Jr. and Mayor Sara confirmed on Tuesday last week their team-up as presidential and vice presidential candidates in Eleksyon 2022.  (MNS)
