MANILA – The Supreme Court (SC) has directed erstwhile senatorial aspirant and nuisance candidate Francis Leo Marcos to explain why he should not be cited in contempt by the tribunal.
“The SC ordered Marcos to show cause within 72 hours from notice why he should not be cited in contempt for his actions, which tend to bring the SC’s processes into disrepute or disrespect,” SC spokesperson Camille Ting told reporters during a press briefing.
Marcos, who is Norman Mangusin in real life, was declared a nuisance candidate by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in November last year for not showing a genuine intent to run for office.
On Jan. 21, the SC issued a temporary restraining order to stop the poll body from revoking the certificate of candidacy of Mangusin.
However, on Jan. 23, Mangusin formally withdrew his candidacy but supposedly failed to inform the SC of his change of mind.
He said he does not want the government to spend big money to print ballots that will include his name.
Instead, he requested his supporters to support the candidacy of presidential sister and reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos. (PNA)
