MANILA – Swiss Grandmaster Peng Li Min topped the Manny Pacquiao International Open at the Family Country Hotel in General Santos City on Saturday.
Peng and Swedish GM Platon Galperin both scored 7.0 points after nine rounds, but the Swiss had superior tiebreaks to claim the USD20,000 champion’s purse and a trophy.
Galperin received USD10,000 while Bulgarian GM Arkadij Naiditsch was third with 6.5 points.
Indonesian GM Novendra Priasmoro was fourth, followed by Indian GMs Visakh NR and Pa Iniyan and Swedish GM Vitaly Sivuk.
Filipino International Master Christian Gian Karlo, GM Daniel Quizon, and Indonesian IM Arif Abdul Hafiz tallied 6.0 points.
In the Challenger category, National Master Keith Adriane Ilar registered eight wins and one loss to secure the PHP100,000 top prize in the event organized by Pacman Chess Association. (PNA)
