MANILA – Police arrested a Taiwanese national and his cohort tagged in the kidnapping of a Chinese national.

In a statement on Thursday, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said the two suspects were nabbed in separate operations on Tuesday.

The Taiwanese national was the first to be collared in a subdivision in Las Piñas City, while the second suspect was apprehended in Barangay 19 in Pasay City hours later.

Marbil lauded the swift and coordinated response of the operating units of the Manila Police District, Pasay City Police Station, and Parañaque City Police Station.

The operation stemmed from a missing person report received by the police on April 18, involving the 41-year-old victim.

The rescue operation successfully secured the safety of the victim, who was earlier reported to have been missing under suspicious circumstances.

Both suspects are facing charges for kidnapping and serious illegal detention under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code.

The case is under final documentation and is set for immediate filing with the proper judicial authorities.

“We will never allow acts of kidnapping and illegal detention to go unpunished. Whether the victims are Filipinos or foreign nationals, the PNP will take swift, decisive action to uphold the law and protect the lives and rights of every individual in this country,” Marbil said.

The PNP said it strengthens its operational capabilities in response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights and welfare of all individuals in the Philippines. (PNA)
