It was Elton John Week on last night’s “American Idol”, prompting 16 year-old Filipina contestant Thia Megia to sing the classic “Daniel”.

Dedicating the song to her older brother, Megia put in a solid vocal performance of the 1973 hit, a song originally inspired by the Vietnam War.  The affection for her older brother was obvious, as the show featured pictures of him in a short video before her performance. Megia even added “hi Kuya” (older brother) while talking to host Ryan Seacrest, blowing him a kiss for the cameras backstage.

Overall, the three judges praised her latest performance, judge Jennifer Lopez saying it was “beautiful” and judge Steven Tyler commenting, “”I think you sang a great Elton John song well.”

However, judge Randy Jackson was less than enthusiastic, as he remarked that she was a little “pitchy” at times and that the song was once again too “safe.”

It will be Megia’s toughest battle yet tonight to stay on the show, as two contestants instead of the usual one will have to leave the competition due to the judges’ save last week of early front-runner Casey Abrams, who shockingly received the lowest amount of votes last week next to Megia and fellow contestant Stefano Langone.

Abrams put in a strong performance last night of “Your Song” that will likely keep him in the competition, as all three judges remarked that saving him was the best decision they’ve made so far in the show’s tenth season.

“We’ve sent a lot of great contestants home that I’ve lost sleep over,” Lopez said to Abrams at the end of the performance.

“But after saving you last week, I slept like a baby.”

Another standout performance on Elton John night was Haley Reinhart’s rendition of “Bennie and the Jets,” which Jackson referred to as “the best performance of the night.”

What do you think? Is Megia worthy to stay in the competition at this point, or has she been playing it too safe with her ballads?  Watch her sing “Daniel” below.
