MANILA – Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado on Wednesday welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr’s statement that allegations of corruption in the bureau are being looked into.
“We respectfully acknowledge and welcome President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s statement regarding the need to look into the issues raised in the so-called Bureau of Immigration (BI) white paper,” Viado said in a statement.
“We share the President’s view that transparency, fairness, and due process are essential in addressing matters of public concern,” he added.
In a media interview on Tuesday, Marcos said Malacañang is looking into allegations of corruption and misconduct against Viado, following a complaint submitted by anonymous BI employees.
Despite the complaint’s lack of signatures and specific details, Marcos said the government would not ignore the contents of the letter.
Viado, who has denied the allegations, said he is leaving the issue up to those who will conduct the investigation.
“We trust that an impartial and comprehensive investigation will bring clarity, establish accountability where warranted, and ultimately strengthen the public’s trust in our institutions,” he said. (PNA)
