CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A total of 115 members and supporters of the Komiteng Rehiyon–Gitnang Luzon (KRGL) formally withdrew their support from the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) during a ceremony on Monday.
The event, held at the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3) Multi-Purpose Hall, marked a significant step in the government’s intensified whole-of-nation approach to ending insurgency in Central Luzon.
Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council, led the rites alongside PRO3 Regional Director Jess B. Mendez. They were joined by National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Regional Director Ulysses Untalan.
The former KRGL members signed a pledge of commitment to affirm their rejection of armed struggle. They also surrendered 38 assorted firearms as a symbolic act of their intent to return to peaceful civilian life.
Following the formal withdrawal, a Serbisyo Caravan provided participants with medical services and livelihood assistance. These programs aim to facilitate their reintegration and address immediate social needs.
The ceremony concluded with the destruction of a New People’s Army (NPA) flag. Officials described this act as a collective rejection of insurgency and a unified call for long-term regional development.
“This shows that more people are choosing peace over violence,” Mendez said. He noted that the mass withdrawal reflects growing public trust in the government’s ability to deliver essential services to all communities.
Governor Ebdane reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to sustaining inclusive development programs. These initiatives are designed to address the root causes of insurgency and foster lasting stability.
Authorities said that monitoring and support systems will remain in place for the former members. These systems are meant to prevent a return to unlawful activities while ensuring the success of community-based reintegration. (PNA)
