MANILA – Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have arrested six persons involved in the widespread production and sale of counterfeit persons with disabilities (PWD) identification cards and other documents in Manila.
NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said they conducted the operations in response to the complaints from business groups, including the Restaurant Owners of the Philippines (Resto PH) about the proliferation of fake PWD IDs for discounts.
“NCRPO will be unwavering against these unscrupulous individuals who deceive the public to advance their personal agenda and interest,” Aberin said in a statement.
Aberin said the Manila Police District (MPD) carried out the operation along Quezon Boulevard in Santa Cruz, Manila last Wednesday, leading to the arrest of three individuals aliased “Dogdog,” 49; “Tess,” 34; and “MJ,” 31.
He said the NCRPO Regional Special Operations Group also conducted an entrapment operation that resulted in the apprehension of “Aileen,” 45; “Jonathan,” 39; and “John,” 29, in Quiapo, Manila on Wednesday.
The police also confiscated a computer set, a laptop, printers, a rubber stamp, nine gold seals, a pack of vellum paper, a cutter, and a metal ruler as evidence while unfinished fake PWD IDs, other suspected forged IDs and an assortment of counterfeit public and private documents were also recovered.
The six suspects face charges before the Manila Office of the City Prosecutor for falsification of public documents, as well as manufacturing and possession of instruments for falsification.
Aberin praised the operating teams for the successful operations and pledged to eradicate such fraudulent activities.
“Our operations against these types of scams will be aggressive and we shall ensure that airtight cases will be filed against them to ensure their conviction after trial,” Aberin said. (PNA)
