BUTUAN CITY – The Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office (ADSPPO) destroyed 11,000 marijuana plants during a Thursday operation in the mountainous area of Barangay Kasapa 1 in Loreto town.
In a statement on Friday, ADSPPO Director Col. Yahya Bustamante Yusup said the uprooted marijuana plants in upland Sitio Bagtok of the village have an estimated value of more than PHP2.2 million.
Authorities also destroyed some 300 seedlings of marijuana at the site, covering an area of 15,000 square meters, he added.
“The operation was carried out with the support of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the other police units in the province,” Yusup said.
Based on gathered information, the marijuana plantation was cultivated by an individual known only as alias “Gusion,” a local farmer who currently remains at large.
“The successful conduct of this operation reflects our sustained commitment to combat illegal drugs and ensure the safety and security of our communities,” Yusup said.
He also acknowledged the strong support from the communities in the area that led to the discovery and eradication of the marijuana plantation. (PNA)
