MANILA – Leyte Vice Governor Leonardo “Sandy” Javier Jr. added another feather to his cap by being recognized as the Horse Owner of the Year, the first of this award, during the San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards at the Manila Diamond Hotel Grand Ballroom on Jan. 29.

The recognition is a true testament to Javier’s remarkable contributions and achievements, not to mention his dedication and passion for the Sport of Kings. He also has played an important role in shaping what Philippine horseracing is today.

The PSA Annual Awards organized by the oldest existing media organization in the country recognizes the cream of the crop of Philippine sports the past year.

“To share the same stage with world champions such as PSA Athlete of the Year EJ Obiena is truly an honor,” Javier said in a statement on Wednesday.

Some of Javier’s gallopers that shone bright in 2023 were Robin Hood, Magtotobetsky, and Vavavoom which incidentally took home the 2023 PSA Cup held last September.

Javier is also one of the most respected breeders in the Philippine horseracing industry.

Also recognized during the PSA Awards were Big Lagoon as Horse of the Year primarily for winning the most prestigious race of the year, the Philracom-PCSO Presidential Gold Cup, and his regular jockey, John Alvin Guce as Jockey of the Year. (PNA)
